Before I post I would like to apologize for how late this post is coming…I’ve had some serious difficulties using my editing software…I’ve been struggling with it for hours and have finally resigned myself to posting this while it’s still Wednesday and posting the video as soon as possible…hopefully still sometime tonight.

————————————————————————————-

Well it’s Wednesday so it’s my turn for introductions. My name is Brittany Riley and I’m going to be a sophomore this coming year at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. However, I’m not from Minnesota. I’m originally from a small city of just over 12,000 (so the population of my home town is about a fourth of the student population of my school) called Stoughton in Wisconsin. As of now I am an undeclared major however I have interest in both Theatre and Economics. I am considering a double major or maybe majoring in Economics with a minor in Theatre….yeah I know…it’s a strange combo.

After college I’m seriously considering Law School. As of now that is my plan however, I’m also considering taking a year off to work and to see if the world of theatre has any interest in me at all. We’ll see how everything shapes up three years from now. Whichever I choose I plan to leave the Midwest and head for a coast. Which coast will depend on what I’m doing but I’m rather partial to the east coast and New York City.

I think there were a number of reasons why I choose my school. One of the main reasons is because Wisconsin has a reciprocity agreement with Minnesota so I can attend the University of Minnesota for the same price as I would pay if I attended the University of Wisconsin Madison. Another choice was distance. I love Madison and grew up always wanting to be a badger but I live only a half an hour outside the city and both my parents work in Madison, my mom and the University’s hospital. Although my school is about a four and a half hour trip, which is a bit long, I think some part of me recognized a need to really be on my own. Perhaps, it’s my first step in leaving the Midwest for greater things but I didn’t want to go to Madison with all of my friends from high school and be safe. I’m also living in a metropolitan area that is completely unlike any city in Wisconsin. I feel much more at home with a skyline to gaze at as I walk across the Mississippi in the morning on my way to class…even if it is -40 out.

I absolutely love my school. I only know one person (out of the 50,000) that I was friends with in high school and only a couple others that were acquaintances. I actually didn’t know that my friend and I had picked the same school until well into the summer. Through some twists of fate I ended up in transfer housing this year. I was still living in one of the dorms on campus it just so happened that our “house” (community) was populated, almost entirely, by students who were transferring from another college or university. They were in a program in which they lived together and took a leadership class together. Most of them only signed up to get guaranteed housing. But we were unlike any other house in our dorm or, I believe, in any other. We instantly bonded and grew closer throughout the year. We were not all best friends but we were all there for each other. It was an amazing experience that I would wish for everyone.

It’s a huge school and people often ask me if I ever feel like I’m just getting lost in the muddle of people jumping on the campus connectors (we have three campuses in Minneapolis the East Bank and West Bank and our St. Paul Campus) or in lectures of 600 people. But I feel just the opposite. I found that even half way through my freshmen year I would see people I knew everywhere I went and that in classes the fact that I was just a number to the Professor or T.A. made me strive even harder to stand out. I guess that’s what’s I find so amazing about our College and University system that there are so many different types of school so if you look and make choices that suit you and not the friends you want to stay with you can find yourself far more at home in an enormous University filled with strangers than you ever did in a high school full of people you’ve known from adolescence to the beginning of adulthood.

This is where my video should be but it still isn’t working…I’m trying to reformat it and I will post it later…I’m sorry that it’s going to be late.

I’m going leaving to go on my vacation with my family to celebrate my cousin’s graduation from College….so I won’t be home…actually I’ll be out at sea. So I’ll make my very best attempt to have something posted between now and when I get back. But even if I can’t I will have pictures to show all of you when I get back.

Hello everyone!!!

My name is Mae, but you can call me Tuesday. I’m 18 and just about done with my freshman year of college. I go to a small private school in my hometown, Kalamazoo College. We’re on quarters and aren’t officially done until this Thursday. I have one exam later today and one exam Wednesday and then I am done with school.

So, this is just a little teaser. Check back at like 17:00 Eastern Time (I prefer military time, but if you don’t like most people, I mean 5 PM) for my full post with a little more about me and my college and a short vlog with six random facts about me. I will also post the first question for the other bloggers.
