Welcome to THURSDAY!!!

There are many reasons I wanted to post on Thursdays:

  1. It’s the day after Wednesday
  2. Half the week is over so I can talk all about it
  3. The Office is usually on Thursdays (when it’s on, at least)
  4. My mom and I can make whatever we want for dinner because my dad’s not home and he’s PICKY!
  5. It’s the day before Friday

I also love Thursdays because during the school year I have that night OFF from work!  Rejoice!  Thursday nights are when the University Band (U Band – community band) meets for rehearsal for nearly two hours.  I’m on Band Staff and Doc (my boss/director) told me that I was NOT allowed to be in the group anymore because I was too overloaded (and not doing too well with my conducting…).  I really enjoyed being in U Band because it gave me the opportunity to pretend that I was a percussion player (I was not very good).  Plus, there was a lot of extra work before, during and after the rehearsal where I was running all over the building making copies and searching for things that were lost.  I panicked too often and my stress stressed him out…  Now I have been freed from my debt to U Band.  This makes me very happy!!!

So, for the rest of my introduction…

My name is Megan and I’m from St. Louis, Missouri.  I’ll be heading into my third year at Concordia University Chicago this August.  Since my freshmen year, I’ve majored in Music Education with an emphasis in both instrumental and choral music but, to be honest, the emphasis has changed.  It started with a dual emphasis but then I switched it to just instrumental at the end of my freshmen year.  At the end of my sophomore year I switched it back and doomed myself to five years of school.  I’m actually okay with this!  Five years isn’t such a big deal…  Once I started telling people it was because I had a double emphasis they all immediately understood rather than just gawk at me.  It’s becoming harder to get through an education degree in four years from what I’ve noticed.  I know this because my school is mostly education majors and that’s sort of why I chose my school – it has an excellent reputation for spitting out great teachers.  I also chose it because of Doc, as I mentioned above.  He and the entire music faculty made me feel very welcome and important.  I’ve sort of got a big head when it comes to music so that was great for my ego…

Also, my major is REALLY HARD.  BME’s are up there with the Pre-Sem guys (pastors in training).  My freshmen class started with twelve BME’s.  We now have four (possibly three).  There is much more ranting involved with this topic and the two above paragraphs but expect that in another post when I’m in a bad mood…

My plans for after school are as followed and in no particular order (because I don’t know yet!):

  • Send out my papers to (hopefully) get a job in a Lutheran school (somewhere K-12)
  • Get my masters in Vocal Performance (at a reputable music school)

After I do those two things it’s all up in the air.  I’m not trying to think too far into the future but my imagination gets ahead of me sometimes… :)

Here are my responses to your questions, Ms. Mae!

  • The best part of my last school year was becoming better friends with all the music majors at my school – they’re funny and definitely nerdfighters, even though they don’t know it. :)
  • The thing that I enjoyed the VERY MOST this past year was the Illinois Music Educator’s Conference.  It’s always fun to miss classes (even if you have to make up the work) and I got to go to a TON of concerts, look at all kinds of music toys and play in a DRUM CIRCLE!  It was so much fun!  I can’t wait for this next year!!! (it’s in February)

I’m going to follow Mae’s example and do my interesting facts and question/challenge in a vlog (seen below):

[For clarification, the sixth fact finger says "I'm a nerd!" not, "I'm a bird!" - just wanted to clear that up.  :)]

Well, that’s all for me!  See you next Thursday (and in the comments)!!!

LOVES!!!

PPS:  I made a video the other night and I wanted to include it…  So, I’m sorry if TWO videos is too much but it was far too much fun to not include.  I hope you enjoy it!

*EDIT*

I added a link up by where I mention the DRUM CIRCLE.  I put together a bunch of them so you could see the awesome that went on at IMEA.
