Hello Hello Hello!

This is your resident Sunday here, also known as Katie (or Peace. I keep saying you can call me either and it’s because I am called both on the internetz. If you ever meet me IRL though I’d prefer Katie because it sounds a little bit less…”Let us be druid friends and run through the forests.” Not that there’s anything wrong about forests. or druids). I’m also the youngest of our Nerdfighter University, since I start attending college in August!

I am 18, up until very recently I attended a private high school in Charlotte, NC where I live (it is very hot). I will be eventually starting my college venture right outside Boston at Wellesley College*, which is a women’s private liberal arts college (I learned the hard way not to call it an “all girl’s school”). So, if this blog continues as planned through the school year you guys will be hearing a LOT of “omg new to college!” stuff. Which may or may not be helpful.

Since I can’t really blog about my college experience yet without…lying, I will talk about the experience of my choosing a college.

It was very difficult for me, because I am not good at making decisions (one of my college essays had that as the thesis, basically). Up until quite recently (read: April) I was stuck between a whole bunch of different colleges: Wesleyan University, St. John’s College MA, Bryn Mawr, and finally, Wellesley. I had no idea which one I would choose until after I had visited them all, and that’s when I made my decision- Wellesley worked for me during the Spring Open Campus, and their alumni looked crazynetworky enough so that if my major ended up not being something I wanted to pursue a career in, I’d still be somewhat ok. Although sometimes I wonder if it was just the fact that a) they had a martial arts club and b) the girl who hosted me was pretty much the awesomest ever.

So, I have no idea what I want to major in aside from the fact that I find Art History, Zoology/Biology (also perhaps Pre Vet?), and English quite interesting and that I definitely also want to take at least one class in Women’s Studies (maybe gender studies as well, idk), consider Classics as a major, and also continue learning Chinese so that maybe one day I can be fluent. :P I also really, really love drawing and would LOVE to take a studio art class but I’m guessing with the huge amount of other classes I want to take this probs won’t end up happening. Boo.

GOOD THING I’M GOING TO A LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGE, EH?
Oh, one more note- I tend to make a lot of use of (parentheses) and CAPS because I’m maybe just a little psychotic like that. I’ve tried to tone it down here, but I figured I’d just warn you guys- I tend to use caps a lot.

Ok, now for stuff that is actually….scheduled. My answers to everyone’s questions!

Mae, my FAVOURITE part of last year was definitely the improved relationship with teachers- when you get to be a senior in High School, they start treating you a bit like an equal. Which was so awesome (my teachers were all pretty awes).

Megan, I haven’t really… had any summer jobs. Hopefully I will this summer, at the place where I do kung fu, but I think my worst summer job so far is not having one yet!

Ian, if I were a movie I would definitely be a quirky British comedy. Four Weddings and a Funeral sounds like the best bet so far. Or maybe even something like Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

HERE R MY VIDYO.

RANDOM FACT: Whips were actually the first device to break the sound barrier. The “crack” of the whip is NOT the tip hitting the leather, but actually a mini sonic boom.

So on that note, thanks everyone for getting this awesome thing to a running start! I regret to say I won’t be here for the next two weeks, as I will be off in England for a two week backpacking-type journey of using public transportation, staying with relatives and also making use of hostels. I daresay it will be EXCELLENT FUN, and if anyone’s interested I’ll probably upload some of my pictures to our flickr account and post picspams and things.

PS: My title is actually a misquotation of lyrics from the Kinks’ “Sunny Afternoon.” In case you were interested.

*-Most people know Wellesley because it is “the college that Hillary Clinton went to.” Or at least this is what I hear from most people in my town who have even heard of Wellesley (possibly less than 50% of the people I talk to).**

**- Yes, I thought footnotes would be a good idea….yes, sometimes my decisions are not.. good.
